Book Report How-to

Book Report How-to
The book reports have a desired and required format to follow.

It is to be one flowing essay with no subtitles or sections. No “I”--third person only. It is the facts of your book.

There are four required sections:

1) introduction—name of book, author, setting, main characters' names, genre, general impression of book
2) Character sketches of main characters=each main character needs one 5 paragraph sketch consisting of: introduction, physical description (sex, strengths, abilities, disabilities, anything about the body), mental/emotional description (smart, disabled, bubbly, personality, depression, anything about inner self), social life (status, popular/loner, relationships, jobs, etc., anything relating to outside interactions), and conclusion.
3) Plot summary-a couple pages telling me the main plot points. I insist on a detailed description of any and all conflicts, not just saying “man vs. man”, etc. Also there must be a mention of the climax.
4) Conclusion critique. It should be a short judgement of the book. “This novel was exciting and the author captured my interest from the start…” or “ This novel was too young for teens and the events were not very interesting” for example. Please rate the novel and tell who would be the prime audience for it.

Semester 2

Welcome to semester two. This semester I teach English 10-2 and 10-3. It is one of my all time favourite courses. Romeo and Juliet, poetry, non-fiction, panel discussions, and so much more. All students need a binder, duotang, silent reading fiction novel, and a box of tissue. My e-mail is leblanat@nbed.nb.ca and feel free to use it. Semester two flies by...only 4.5 weeks until March Break.

Lord of the Flies Essay

Hi folks,

The ESSAY is upon us. All 11-2 students are writing, in class, a formal essay on topics pertaining to Lord of the Flies. They will be spending the next days writing their outlines, fleshing out the body paragraphs, and choosing their quotations. For Monday, they will have their first draft written. Then we will be reading the research and choosing what will fit our arguments. By the end of the week, our essays will be done. Please finish any outstanding work at night, and keep in mind this is our major work for November.

It's a new year. Welcome back.

Hi students and parents. The 2010-2011 school year is upon us. What a great start. This is the website where you can find due dates and instructions for major assignments. Day to day homework will probably not show up here, but if you have something due and you left the instructions at school, this will help you. Parents can also find updates here for upcoming events. Like right now. Meet the teacher is tomorrow night, Wednesday, at 6:30. I hope to see you all.
