Homework is not a request
Hi everybody. The speeches are going very well so far. I have been impressed with the willingness to get up to the lectern or podium and speak. The students have all been to the front of the class three or more times each and are learning new skills each time; i.e. poise, breathing, eye contact, etc.
However, some have come to class unprepared. I have sent the students home each night and this past weekend with a small task. Work at writing a small speech (30 seconds to a minute) and memorize it. I have almost 10 students who did not bother with this small amount. Homework is necessary practice of skills taught at school. It is not a request or a choice. If I didn't think it was important, I would not assign it. At the very least, it is a school expectation and rule that all teachers and vice-principals as well as our principal feels is very important.
Now that that unpleasantness is over, on to other news:
I am pleased to announce we have a student teacher in my classes this semester. Ms. Crossman will be teaching lessons and grading papers until the end of April. She is very capable and we are lucky to have her. I am quite flattered she was assigned to my classes.
Back to speeches, the schedule of homework and events will be in the following post.
